Most grandparents love their grandchildren, perhaps even more than their own children: this is because
they consider them «little creatures» in need of love and protection and they do not They no longer have
the heavy responsibility of having to give them a strict 24/7 upbringing. They can therefore enjoy the joy
of watching their grandchildren grow up from a slightly more relaxed perspective than that of parents.
What this grandfather did to ensure that his ten grandchildren arrived at school safely and on time,
however, is something of legend: Mr. Doug Hayes is very attached to each of them and did not want not
neglect a single one.
Like all retired grandparents, Mr. Doug’s children had asked their father for a favor to drive their
children to school. The ten children — all around the same age, with an age difference of about five years
- attend a small public school in the US town where they live, but the school has no school bus service .
Several times, the little ones complained about this lack to their grandfather and their grandmother
Amy.
During the Christmas period, Mrs Amy asked her husband what his biggest dream was: «I would feel
really happy if I could take all our grandchildren to school in the morning in a small bus just for us»,
replied Mr. Doug. A week after this realization, his wife made calculations and told her husband that it
was time to launch out and realize his little dream. Fate was found perfectly on their side: after a short
search, the couple found the perfect bus to buy. On Christmas Day, when the whole family was gathered
for lunch, Doug showed off the huge gift that would delight young and old alike. The little ones were in
ecstasy in front of the school bus and the parents were pleasantly surprised. None of them could believe
their eyes.
«It was a big surprise! We were all really amazed. I didn’t expect him to buy a minibus! It was really fun!»
commented a grandchild to the local news. «It’s mostly about their safety and being able to spend a few
minutes with them every morning,» says Doug.
There is no doubt that the whole family will never forget what Grandpa Doug was willing to do for his
loved ones.
