«I married the one who bullied me in high school: he hurt me, but I forgave him»

The school years can be the most beautiful, but also the most difficult of a person’s life. The most
complicated period for many is adolescence, when we begin to grow up, live our first important
experiences, first loves blossom and, unfortunately, many have the sad experience of being harassed by
their peers.

The phenomenon of school bullying is unfortunately well known and constitutes a huge problem that
plagues our society and seems almost impossible to eradicate. Yet there must be a way to defeat it and
we must never give up hope or stop in our quest. In this sense, the story that we are going to tell you is
an example of tolerance, but also of understanding, on the part of those who have been in the place of
the harasser, of the error committed.Making fun of classmates , calling them silly names or comparing
them to particular cartoon characters, as in this case, seems like a fun thing to do, but for those who
suffer the consequences, it isn’t at all. Twenty-year-old Lauren Enslow from Utah, who was the butt of a
classmate’s teasing for some time, knows this all too well.

Lucas Olsen, 21, was the perpetrator of the girl’s abuse. Every day he and his friends laughed at her,
until something changed and he started looking at her with new eyes.

Who would imagine one day bonding with his high school bully to the point of deciding to marry him?
Well, for these two youngsters, that’s exactly what happened. The turning point came when Lauren,
along with her mother and sister, were involved in a car accident that Lucas witnessed. Fortunately, the
three women escaped unscathed, but the boy was so shaken that he became interested in the girl he
had targeted until then.

«He started contacting me every day to find out how I was doing,» Lauren says, «So I saw the good in
him for the first time and slowly mutual feelings were born. A lot of people told me that they would
never give a chance to someone who had made me feel bad until then, but I felt he was different from
the boy who tormented me.»

A change that the young man also noticed: «I realized that my previous behavior was bad,» he
confessed. «When you’re younger you think some things are funny, but it’s the exact opposite.»
