A couple in Austin, Texas, just received a prestigious title that many will aspire to but few will really hold. With a combined age of 211 years, John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte Henderson, 105, have just broken the record for the oldest married couple.
On December 15, they will also be commemorating their 80th wedding anniversary. They first encountered one other in class in 1934 when enrolled at the University of Texas in Austin. Their honeymoon cost $7 and was spent in a hotel room after their December 1939 wedding.
So what’s the secret to the couple’s record-breaking marriage and exceedingly long lifespan?
John claimed that he lived a moderate life in 2017. They never take things too far. Eat sensibly. Good sleep. Drink moderately. Don’t overindulge. And work out frequently.

When John retired, they had a great time, according to Charlotte. They traveled much. They simply stay active constantly, which undoubtedly aided.
The two now volunteer at Longhorn Village, a retirement community for former residents and staff of UT.
