To say that a parent is ready to do anything for their child is obvious. We know that every mom and dad
would give up everything for their children to have a good life. However, despite these efforts,
sometimes problems arise that go beyond the commitment to the little ones in the house.
When, for example, the relationship between two spouses comes to an end and there is no longer any
reason to continue it, the children also, unfortunately, suffer. Between the arguments and the ensuing
separation, the daily tranquility can be upset and in one way or another even the little ones are
destabilized. At the time of the final divorce, the children must be entrusted to one of the two parents
and the other does not always accept it without protest. That’s what happened in this story. Breaking
with his wife, Rene Salinas Ramos, 47, an Ecuadorian citizen, has made headlines for an unusual decision
he made after his separation from with his wife. Father of two little girls whom he says he has not been
able to see for months after the little ones were entrusted to their mother, he has decided to act and
assert his rights in an unusual way.
«My daughters live in an environment that is not age appropriate,» the man explained. «But sadly this
country doesn’t protect us dads, and when we separate, the person who has the most right to be with
the children is the mother, even though she is clearly unable to take good care of it.» It was precisely
from this consideration that his decision was made: the man chose to request an official gender change,
from male to female, in order to become another «mom».
«I’m sure of what I am,» he said, «but I want to have the same rights as a mother, I am one now and it’s
my due.»
His protest was intended to draw attention to what Rene claims is the predicament Ecuadorian men find
themselves in. «We are simple breadwinners, and therefore the children are entrusted to the care of the
mother, regardless of the conditions in which they live.»
His request led to a change in the documents, which however testifies to a simple «bureaucratic» change
and not a change of life.
We can therefore speak of a call to tell the authorities to think twice before making such a decision. It is
true that the mother is important in the life of a child, but the father is just as important, which is why
multiple factors must be taken into account.
