She spends 11,600 euros to have her cat treated, but the final diagnosis is strange: «He’s just weird»

Many people decide to open the doors of their home, and their hearts, to a pet, for example choosing to
adopt one, thus saving it from an almost certain sad fate in a shelter. Our four-legged friends often
know how to brighten up our days, but it’s also true that managing another living creature isn’t always
rosy. It’s not uncommon for our kitty or pooch to need proper medical attention and as we know, vet
fees aren’t exactly affordable. The girl featured in this story, for example, paid a whopping $12,500
(11,600 euros) for her adorable little cat.

Too bad (or fortunately!) that in reality, the animal was doing
well…Abigail Laker is a 23-year-old young woman who gave a warm home and all her love to Moose, a
very special black cat. Moose seemed to be a cat like the others, certainly soft and cuddly, but quite like
the others, in appearance. Abigail soon discovered that things were not so simple: there was something
strange about the animal’s breathing. Worried about the health of her cat, the young woman took her
to the vet: «At first, I didn’t realize there was a problem. I took her to the vet to have her sterilized and
the vet noticed she was breathing fast, so they asked me if she used to do that because it could be
something serious.»

Until then, Abigail hadn’t considered the possibility that her cat might be suffering from something
serious, but after the vet appointment, she began to notice Moose’s abnormal breathing: «Sometimes
she would 80 per minute,” she recalls, adding that she had to take the cat to the vet if the breaths
reached 100 per minute. After several months of investigation and a lot of money spent on veterinary
care (about $12,500! ), the medical answer was very simple: Moose is just a weird cat! «The vet said
they’ve done all the tests possible and Moose’s breathing has nothing to do with his heart or lungs and
it’s probably just a behavioral issue,» the young woman confirmed. Apparently Moose is just a cat who
decided to pant.

Of course, finding out that her pet is perfectly healthy is the news everyone wants to hear…too bad this
girl had to shell out over ten thousand dollars to make sure!
