Each adoptee has their own reasons for wanting to know more about the past, and each experience is
unique. Some may be enthusiastic about getting to know their biological parents, others less so, as the
circumstances behind each adoption can vary widely. But the desire to discover its origins is quite
common. After all, it’s natural to wonder about her past, but it’s rare to find that it’s been turbulent
enough from the early days: that’s what happened to Shawne Bolton, a 42-year-old from the US state of
Utah. The woman shared her birth family’s incredible story on social media.
It all started when Shawne decided to get married at the age of 26: «For the first time, I was in a healthy
environment, I was preparing to get married and I had two children,» he said. she tells. I thought the
quickest way to find my biological mother would be to consult her criminal record», she added. So she
decided to call the police in her hometown: the sheriff showed up ‘extremely interested.’ After some
research, the man explained that she had been missing since 1980.
Unfortunately, the documents on his disappearance have been archived. Shawne revealed that the
family she grew up with actually «adopted» her illegally by going directly to her birth mother. When
Shawne’s grandmother asked her daughter what had happened to her granddaughter, the woman
reported the girl missing to the police. Shawne added that her mother even helped with her search,
despite always knowing her daughter’s whereabouts.
However, she added that the family who «bought her» were not loving at all. «I was very confused. I
couldn’t understand why they didn’t like me and why they treated me so badly,» Shawne shared. Years
later, the family she was living with decided to divorce and both alleged parents confessed to her that
they were not her biological parents. Later, with the help of the police, Shawne manages to find her
mother, but she had been warned by her uncles and aunts not to establish a relationship with her.
In fact, Shawne explained that the bond with her entire biological family «didn’t work» and she soon felt
left out. After knowing them for about ten years, she decided not to talk to them anymore. The
discovery of such a complicated reality did not spare Shawne great trauma, which she is now trying to
resolve in order to be a better mother than her biological and adoptive mother: «I am much better now.
J I have my own business. I have no contact with my family members. I have a very complicated
relationship with my children that I would like to fix and I spend every day trying to do so. I am not
perfect» , she explained.
