Work – if honest and done with dedication – is always respectable, whatever it is. You don’t have to hold
prestigious positions or earn a fortune to feel fulfilled in the professional sphere.
So proved Robert Peters, a pizza delivery man from Tipton, Indiana, USA, who has been doing his job for
over 31 years, always with a smile and the utmost kindness. That’s why he recently received a big
surprise when a customer tipped him well above his expectations. Tanner Langley is a regular customer
at the pizzeria where Mr Peters works and over the years he has noticed that the man does his job with
passion and dedication, always making sure his customers get the exact change. “He might drive five or
six miles down the road in a blizzard just to bring you 15 cents in change,” he said. But why would he do
such a thing? «Sheer ethics. He doesn’t have the inclination to make anyone feel obligated to tip him,»
Langley said.
Faced with such dedication, Mr. Langley felt compelled to offer Mr. Peters a tip commensurate with the
quality of his service, launching a collection from the community to proceed with the purchase of a new
car for Mr. Peters, his being dated. In just two days, the people of Tipton raised an impressive $19,000,
enough to buy a red Chevrolet Malibu, including insurance and gas. «That’s the kind of impact Mr. Peters
has on people “, commented Mr. Langley after the success of the fundraiser. A few days later, Mr
Langley donated the new car to Mr Peters, who was surely surprised and moved by the incredible
gesture from his community: «I can’t believe it, it’s almost surreal .I have no words to express my
gratitude,” he said.
The pizzeria he works for has also joined the collection, saying Mr Peters is one of the most loyal
delivery people. «Of course, this job is not something most people aspire to,» admits Peters. «There
were people in my family who said, ‘Maybe you should think about something more financially stable’.
But that’s my purpose in life: to try to make people happy. When you make a delivery to someone, you
might be the only face they see all day,» he added. This passion and the extreme attention he pays to
customers have made him a friend of all the inhabitants of the city and have earned him a very nice
reward.
